Tuesday, Sept 8...A Day at the Coast

Today Charlie and I enjoyed a leisurely drive up the Oregon coast. We stopped along the way to take in the extraordinary views. We have posted photos of our favorite 3 lighthouses. When we arrived at Depoe Bay, we visited the Whale Watching Center. We could see a whale playing off shore. Luckily, a volunteer working there gave us the name and telephone number of Zodiac Excursions and that was all we needed to be out on the water in search of whales. Carrie, the owner of Zodiac, and her dog Kayla have studied the grey whales of Depoe Bay for years.  Carrie has also worked as a whale researcher for PBS documentaries. She didn’t disappoint us, with her knowledge of the sea, in no time there were whales just 40 feet from our small craft…what a thrill. Along with the whales we also saw sea lions, seals and waterfowl . . . another great day!
