Wind Cave National Park

Wind Cave National Park was our next stop.   Charlie and I were both looking forward to seeing a unique formation called "boxwood".   We were not disappointed, these formations were unlike any others we have seen before.   The pictures here do not do them justice, but hope you can get an idea of what they were like.  Regarded as sacred by American Indians, the cave was not explored until settlers came in 1881.  However, we did find one natural formation in the cave which remarkably looked a lot like a buffalo.

After leaving Wind Cave we headed for Spearfish, SD to spend the night...along the way we encountered thousands of vintage cars and an untold number of motorcycles...what was going on?  Passing through Deadwood, SD we discovered an antique car show was in full swing.  Needless to say every motel room for miles around was taken (and at a premium)...we did managed to find  rooms but had to pay more than twice our budgeted rate of "$29" tax included :).

Tomorrow we head for Devil's Tower, WY and points beyond.
